## 1977 Eisenhower $1 Coin - Uncirculated Proof

This listing is for a 1977 Eisenhower $1 coin featuring an uncirculated proof finish.

**Proof Coinage:**
Proof refers to a specific minting method rather than the condition of the coin itself. Even coins with minor handling marks or toning can be classified as proofs.

Proof coins are specially manufactured for commemorative or presentation purposes, distinct from regular circulation coinage. They feature a frosted design contrasted against a mirror-like, polished field, enhancing the aesthetic appeal of the coin's artwork.

The minting process for proof coins is significantly more complex than for standard issues. It involves highly polished dies and striking each coin at least two to three times.

This specific coin is referred to as a "matte proof," often used in contrast to "brilliant proof" finishes. When "proof" is stated without further qualification, it generally refers to this type.
