Cometic uses stainless steel for added strength, rebound ability and corrosion resistance. The gasket layers are embossed and coated on both sides with a flouroelastomer rubber-based material (Viton) designed to meet the demands of a variety of severe sealing environments, load conditions and surface finishes. The Viton lining is heat resistant to 2500 C or 4820 F. The center shim or unlined layer of the gasket is composed of a layer of stainless steel, which can be varied to suit various thickness requirements. The MLS Gasket is ideal for both aluminum heads on cast iron blocks and aluminum on aluminum blocks.The composition of MLS forces also resists the shearing created by aluminum heads on cast iron blocks. Re-torquing is not necessary. By design, the MLS Gasket promotes an even sealing torque across the entire load-bearing surface, allowing for reduced diameter distortion.
